• Curran lauds England’s ‘exceptional job’

England all-rounder Sam Curran chats to the press after day two of the second Test against the Proteas at Newlands.

The hosts moved to 216-8 in response to the tourists’ 269 all out on Saturday. Curran was particularly impressed with the performance of spinner Dom Bess.

‘I thought Bess did an amazing job for us the whole day,’ said Curran.

‘He held it together and helped us big lads come in from the top end where there’s probably a bit more movement.

‘It’s pretty obvious the seamers maybe haven’t got as much from that end, so I thought he bowled really well.

‘I think we bowled really well as group – we kept the rate down all day.

‘We reaped the rewards towards the end. We may have got no wickets through the middle session but we knew they would come if we stuck at it.’

South Africa lead the four-match series after victory by 107 runs in the first Test at SuperSport Park in Centurion. The match was completed inside four days.

St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth and the Wanderers in Johannesburg will host the third and fourth Test, respectively, later this month.
