The 10 biggest six-hitters in IPL history

Since the IPL's first season in 2008, the tournament has produced some of the most destructive batting in T20 history. These ten players have cleared the rope more than anyone else.

1. Chris Gayle – 357 sixes | 142 matches

No one comes close. Gayle holds the record for the most sixes in a single IPL season with 59 in 2012, and the most in a single innings with 17. His 357 career sixes across Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings has stood untouched since his retirement in 2021.

2. Rohit Sharma – 310+ sixes | 277 matches (still active)

The most prolific Indian six-hitter in IPL history. Built across stints with Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians, his tally is the only one with a realistic chance of threatening Gayle’s record.

3. Virat Kohli – 300+ sixes | 276 matches (still active)

Not traditionally seen as a power hitter, yet his longevity at Royal Challengers Bengaluru and ability to accelerate in the final overs have quietly built one of the great six-hitting records in the tournament. Every one has come in a single RCB shirt since 2008.

4. MS Dhoni – 264 sixes | 278 matches (still active)

Almost entirely from the lower order, making his strike rate of 137.45 all the more remarkable for a finisher batting at five or below.

5. AB de Villiers – 251 sixes | 184 matches

Mr 360 needed fewer matches than anyone else in this top five to reach his tally. No angle was wrong. No field setting was safe.

6. Sanju Samson – 240+ sixes | 187 matches (still active)

One of the IPL’s most elegant power hitters. His timing and ability to clear long boundaries without relying on brute force sets him apart from most on this list.

7. David Warner – 236 sixes | 184 matches

236 sixes across Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, combining powerful hitting at the top of the order with the consistency that made him one of the most damaging openers in the tournament’s history.

8. KL Rahul – 230+ sixes | 155 matches (still active)

More than 230 sixes from just 155 matches speaks to his efficiency as much as his power.

9. Andre Russell – 220+ sixes | 140 matches (still active)

The highest strike rate on this list at 174.17. Russell does not need time to settle — from ball one, every delivery is a target.

10. Kieron Pollard – 223 sixes | 189 matches

Just behind Russell but played 49 more matches to get there, which tells its own story. Almost all of them came in the death overs when the game was on the line.
