• Rowles century not enough for SA U19

Jason Rowles’ valiant century was in vain as South Africa U19 suffered an eight-wicket defeat (DLS method) to India U19 in the second Youth ODI on Monday.

The visitors took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

After winning the toss, South Africa opted to bat first, with Rowles anchoring the innings with a superb 114. He received support from Daniel Bosman (31) and Adnaan Lagadien (25) and the hosts ended their innings all out for 245.

Persistent lightning interruptions eventually saw the match reduced to 27 overs per side, and India set a revised target of 174 runs for victory.

The visitors approached the chase with confidence, led by captain Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who struck a quickfire 68 off just 24 balls.

He was well supported by Abhigyan Kundu, who finished unbeaten on 48, while Vedant Trivedi (31*) and Aaron George (20) also made valuable contributions and the visitors reached the target with eight wickets in hand.

For South Africa, debutant Michael Kruiskamp was the standout performer with the ball, claiming two crucial wickets on debut.
