• Ontong rights the ship

The second day of this round of Sunfoil Series matches saw the encounters start to take shape.

The Lions’ lower-order dug in at Newlands to post 413. The Cape Cobras then found themselves in trouble at 76-4, before Justin Ontong and Dane Vilas struck up a much needed partnership. The two took the hosts to 214-4 at stumps.

Ontong and Vilas will resume on 60 and 63, respective. They will look to bat as long as possible tomorrow, before giving their bowlers an opportunity to force victory on day four.

In Pietermaritzburg Wayne Parnell set up a probable first innings lead for the Warriors. His unbeaten 74 off 105 deliveries took the visitors to 353 all out.

Parnell then did his bit with the ball, taking 2-46 in 11 overs to help reduced the Dolphins to 169-7. Ryan McLaren and Imran Tahir showed some fight, taking the total to 262-8 when bad light stopped play, and will resume on 38 and 21, respectively.

After being dismissed early this morning for 366, the Titans skittled the Knights for 185 in Bloemfontein. Reeza Hendricks was the only batsman to record a half-century, but his 64 wasn’t enough to post a meaningful total.

The Titans batted briskly in their second innings, reaching 115-3 at stumps. They are already 296 runs ahead and are looking good for a valuable away win.
