• Leie, Cook produce the goods

Eddie Leie took three wickets and Stephen Cook scored a fifty as the Lions beat the Knights by four wickets in their One-Day Cup match in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The Knights were put in to bat first but regular wickets meant they never got going. Everyone in the top order got starts but no one managed to convert it into a big score. Reeza Hendricks top scored with 41, but none of the other batsmen scored more than 30.

Leie was in top form, claiming 3-43 in 10 overs while Matt McGillivray took 3-32 in 5.3 overs.

The Lions took their time in chasing down the target with Cook playing a captain’s innings of 64. Alviro Petersen contributed 36 while Nicky van den Bergh scored a unbeaten 43 to see out the run-chase.

Cruising at 158-4 with just 21 runs needed, the Knights struck twice in one over as Shadley van Schalkwyk removed Cook and McGillivray to give his team faint hope of pulling off an unlikely victory but Van den Bergh made sure the getting of the last few runs went smoothly.
