• Rabada, Morris and Dhawan inspire Delhi win

Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris had a good day out with the ball, while Shikhar Dhawan starred with the bat to help Delhi Capitals defeat Kolkata Knight Riders, reports ANITHA MADIKIZELA.

A reshuffled Kolkata side posted a convincing 178-7 at Eden Gardens, thanks to a scorching half-century by Shubman Gill (65), as well as another all too familiar cameo from Andre Russell (45). Rabada and Morris were at the helm of the Delhi attack and each picked up two wickets before Dhawan completed the chase with seven balls in hand.

Having won the toss and electing to bat first, the Capitals made early inroads by dismissing IPL debutant Joe Denly with the first ball of the match. The home side managed to get their innings back on track, but Rabada was soon brought into the attack and promptly got rid of Robbie Uthappa (28) before he could get going.

Morris got in on the action by shattering Nitish Rana’s stumps before Rabada added another wicket to his tally when Knight Riders captain, Dinesh Karthik, clipped him to the man at square leg.

Morris accounted for the destructive Russell – who had already struck three boundaries and four phenomenal sixes – when Rabada completed the catch at third man for an all-South African dismissal.

The visitors then strolled to a seven-wicket victory following a fantastic 97 not out (63 balls, 11×4, 2×6) from the until now out of form Dhawan, who also walked away with the Player of the Match award.
