• Ingram heralds ‘hype, buzz’ of IPL

Former South African batsman Colin Ingram has welcomed a lucrative return to the Indian Premier League.

Ingram was purchased by Delhi for approximately R12-million at Tuesday’s player auction in Jaipur.

He played for the Daredevils, who have since been renamed the Capitals, in 2011 as well.

That squad featured countrymen Morne Morkel and Roelof van der Merwe. The new squad is lined with Proteas all-rounder ChrisKallis prepares for IPL in SA or UAEMorris, now-New Zealand big-hitter Colin Ingram, Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma and others.

‘I’m really happy to be returning to the IPL and Delhi again after many years, and it’s going to be great to play with the hype and buzz that is cricket in India,’ Ingram told TMGD.

‘My family and I are thrilled at the news and I look forward to meeting up with the Delhi Capitals and getting my teeth into the exciting cricket that is IPL.’

Ingram is currently playing for the Adelaide Strikers in Australia’s Big Bash League – and boasts experience for the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League and Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League.

Quartet Morne Morkel, Dale Steyn, Reeza Hendricks and Hashim Amla went unsold at the auction for the 2019 tournament. The omissions of Hendricks and Steyn, who starred for the Jozi Stars and Cape Town Blitz respectively in the recent Mzansi Super League, were particularly intriguing.
