• India rest Bumrah for Australia, NZ ODIs

India have rested fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for January and February’s limited-overs series against Australia and New Zealand.

Bumrah was 2018’s fourth-highest wicket-taker, after South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada, Sri Lanka’s Dilruwan Perera and Australia’s Nathan Lyon.

The 25-year-old right-armer, alongside in-form batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, recently spearheaded India to a famous two-one Test series win over Australia.

India will played three ODIs against the Australians – and five more and three T20Is against the New Zealanders.

The talented Mohammed Siraj has been named as Bumrah’s replacement in the ODI squad, while fellow seamer Siddarth Kaul was added to the T20I squad.

‘The board of control for cricket in India has decided to rest India pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the forthcoming ODI series against Australia and the tour in New Zealand,’ read a statement from the BCCI.

‘Keeping in mind the workload of the bowler, it was best felt to give him adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia. Siraj will replace Bumrah in the squad for the Australia and New Zealand tour.’
