• Dolphins vs Lions preview

The Lions travel to Durban to take on the Dolphins in the Momentum One Day Cup on Wednesday.

Both sides recorded victories on the weekend in their opening fixtures of the competition. The matches come thick and fast in the One Day Cup this month and it’s therefore important for teams to get on a winning role. Momentum is the key, as the Lions and Dolphins will be looking to establish a winning habit.

The victories over the weekend came on the Highveld for both teams. They were high-scoring affairs with almost all the bowlers coming in for some punishment. However, the first match of the competition at the coast promises to give the respective bowling units more of a shout.

    Players to watch:

Morne van Wyk was the star of the show for the Dolphins in their victory over the Titans, but Vaughn van Jaarsveld made a welcome return to form during the key partnership of the match. A rush of blood to the head saw him give his wicket away in the 60’s. The left-hander will be determined to cash in on his next visit to the crease, now that his form has returned, after experiencing a lean patch in the CLT20.

The Lions posted a winning total against the Warriors on the back of a mature 73 from Neil McKenzie. His experience and calm head will once again be key to the Lions chances.

    Prediction:

It’s a tough one to call. The Lions have bowled far better than the Dolphins and should enjoy the helpful conditions at sea level, but the Dolphins are at home and will be more familiar with the wicket. For that reason, the hosts should win a tight contest with the support of the home crowd.
