IPL 2026 over for De Kock after injury blow

Quinton de Kock's IPL campaign has come to an end after Mumbai Indians confirmed the South African wicketkeeper-batter has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a tendon injury in his left wrist.

The injury was sustained before MI’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 29, though de Kock continued to be assessed before the club confirmed the news this week. Allrounder Raj Angad Bawa has also been ruled out with a ligament tear in his right thumb.

It is a frustrating end to what had been a season of mixed fortunes for de Kock. The 33-year-old played just three matches, scoring 112 not out on debut before managing only 13 and 7 in his subsequent two innings.

Mumbai Indians largely preferred Ryan Rickelton as their primary overseas opener, limiting de Kock’s opportunities throughout the campaign.

MI confirmed both players will continue their rehabilitation at home with support from the club’s medical team. “Mumbai Indians wishes them a quick recovery, and will announce replacements as per IPL guidelines,” the club said in a statement.

The news adds a personal blow to what has been a difficult season for the five-time champions. MI have already been eliminated from playoff contention, sitting ninth on the table with eight points from 12 matches.

For de Kock, attention will now turn to his recovery ahead of South Africa’s busy home international schedule later in 2026.
