• Darren Bravo back for Windies

Batsman Darren Bravo has been named in the West Indies’ squad for this month’s ODI series against India.

The recall effectively ends a two-year hiatus from international cricket for Bravo, who had fallen out with the West Indies Cricket Board over a clash between playing domestic cricket and overseas T20 leagues.

Three uncapped players – opener Chandrapaul Hemraj, all-rounder Fabian Allen and seamer Oshane Thomas – are also in the ODI squad.

The big-hitting Chris Gayle was not available due to participation in the Afghanistan Premier League.

All-rounder Kieron Pollard and three newcomers – seamer Obed McCoy, spinner Khary Pierre and batsman Sherfane Rutherford have been named in the squad for the three T20Is that follow the five ODIs.

‘With the 2020 ICC World T20 two years away and the limited amount of T20 Internationals within the next year, the panel believes at this juncture it is time to invest in the young players that have emerged over the last two years from Windies A and B teams, along with 2018 CPL,’ said chairman of selectors Courtney Browne.

‘The panel believes that this new group of cricketers, in addition to their cricketing skills, will have the athleticism needed to improve our fielding, which will be vital to our success.

‘The selection of a young group two years prior to the World T20 gives the coaching staff time to help them with their skills and for the team to develop into a cohesive and competitive unit.’

Two Tests will precede the limited-overs fixtures.
