• CSA awards: Burger, Potgieter or Marais?

    The annual Cricket South Africa awards will take place in Pretoria on Saturday. Several accolades will be handed out, including the Africa T20 Cup Player of the Tournament.

    The candidates: Nandre Burger, Delano Potgieter, Marco Marais.

    Burger’s 11 wickets were the most in the 2018 Africa T20 Cup. His economy rate was the strongest of the tournament’s top four wicket-takers, too. He has since performed well for South Africa Emerging and joined the Cape Cobras from the Lions.

    The second-highest wicket-taker and joint fifth among the top wicket-takers, Potgieter was the tournament’s leading all-rounder and integral to Gauteng’s title-winning campaign. ‘Everything went really well. There is always place for an all-rounder,’ he said at the time.

    Marais struck the most runs – 359 in six innings. His hefty haul included two centuries and as many half-tons. This fine form aided a stint with the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants in the inaugural Mzansi Super League in late 2018.
