Wins for the Northern Knights and Lahore Lions in the last round of qualifiers secured their places in the main draw, while the Mumbai Indians crashed out.

The first game on Tuesday saw Lahore take on Southern Express (Sri Lanka). The Pakistani side played a near perfect match to keep their qualification hopes alive. They batted first and posted 164-6, on the back of a solid platform built by the openers. They then bowled and fielded like men possessed, dismissing Southern Express for 109 to claim a 55-run victory.

The second match would determined which two sides progressed. Unfortunately for the home fans, the Mumbai Indians were outclassed by New Zealand’s Northern Knights. A win would have guaranteed Mumbai’s participation in the tournament, but when they posted a below par 132-9, the writing was on the wall. Led by a Kane Williamson half-century, the Northern Knights cruised home in the 18th over with six wickets in hand. The result meant that the two winners on the day had earned a spot in the 2014 CLT20.

In addition to the Cape Cobras and Dolphins, a number of teams feature South African players. Have a look at this article to see which sides your favourite players will be representing: Saffas on duty in India – http://www.sacricketmag.co.za/saffas-in-the-clt20/
