• Boucher would coach SA on his terms

Titans head coach Mark Boucher would consider being the Proteas team director, if allowed to choose the support staff.

Lions head coach Enoch Nkwe has been appointed interim team director for the September and October tour of India.

A full-time appointment for the new role, introduced after head coach Ottis Gibson and team manager doctor Mohammed Moosajee’s positions were dissolved, will be made later this year.

‘If I can get my leadership and my management group with me, then yes. There is a lot of talent in the country. With myself, and a management group, where I fall short on certain things, I’ll get those guys to come up and do that. I think I have a lot to offer South African cricket,’ IOL quoted Boucher as saying.

Boucher was not approached by Cricket South Africa to effectively replace Gibson in an interim role for the three T20Is and as many Tests against India. CSA, meanwhile, has advertised for a new convenor of selectors.

‘You look at Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United – he did the contracts, selected his team, everyone worked underneath him and it does work,’ added Boucher.

”If they want that football style and move it into cricket, then why not have the same structure. What’s the need for a convenor of selectors, or a selection panel? Would that not just confuse everything?’
