• Botha’s beaut throw catches Finch short

Former Proteas all-rounder Johan Botha pulled off a magical piece of fielding in the Big Bash League to earn himself today’s Play of the Day award, writes ANITHA MADIKIZELA.

Botha played for the Proteas from 2005 to 2012 before moving to Australia and being granted citizenship in 2016, and he has been an instrumental part of the Hobart Hurricanes team, unbeaten in their first five matches of the BBL season.

In an effort to keep the unbeaten run alive, Botha pulled off a stunning direct hit run-out of Melbourne Renegades captain Aaron Finch just as the Australian international was starting to hit his straps in the second-innings chase.

Unfortunately for Botha, the moment of excellence was not enough to keep the Renegades at bay, as the home team successfully chased down the relatively low target of 146 in the final over of the match.
