• SA Emerging prevail

Man of the Match Marques Ackerman scored 82, inspiring SA Emerging to victory against Sri Lanka Emerging.

This was match six of the CSA Tri-Series at Tuks Oval on Thursday, and the hosts claimed victory despite a great performance from Hashan Dumindu, who scored 104 from 135 balls. South African bowlers Bjorn Fortuin and Vincent Moore, took 3-34 and 2-39 respectively.

With 240-7 the target to beat, the SA Emerging side stepped up to the crease.

Sibonelo Makhanya and Simon Khomari got off to a steady start with a partnership of 31, before Khomari was bowled out for a disappointing seven runs.

Makhanya followed up this partnership with another, teaming up with Leus du Plooy for a 34-run stand, before being bowled out for 37.

Despite a great effort from Du Plooy, 49 runs off 69 balls, he fell just short of a half century, after building a partnership of 66 runs with Marques Ackerman. With help from Patrick Kruger, who scored 31 from 38 deliveries, the skipper went on to score 82 runs not out, leading his side to a comfortable three-wicket victory.

Ackerman was delighted with the victory and was extremely proud of his teams performance.

‘It was a good wicket,’ he said. ‘I feel we lost wickets in patches, so I really had to pace the innings well. We have a deep batting line-up so, towards the end, I had Bjorn (Fortuin, 11 off 9) batting with me and it made it easy, winning with a little under three overs to spare.’

Marques Ackerman has scored 77 first-class runs, with a strike rate of 48.42.
