Pretorius and Shamsi bamboozle opposition batsmen

Dwaine Pretorius celebrates with Lions teammates Pretorius and Shamsi bamboozle opposition batsmen
    Published on December 20, 2018 | Leave a response

Dwaine Pretorius starred for the Lions with a career-best 6-38 against the Dolphins, while Tabraiz Shamsi worked his magic once more on his way to 5-83 on day two of the sixth round of 4-Day Franchise Series encounters.

Dolphins resumed on 302-6 and were soon bowled out for 303 runs, thanks to a brilliant spell from Dwaine Pretorius. The Lions’ paceman recorded career-best figures of 6-38 in 18.5 overs as he battled to get his team back in the game. The Lions’ first innings left much to be desired as they capitulated to a disastrous 134 all out within 42 overs during a catastrophic day two. The Dolphins elected to add on to their lead instead of enforcing the follow-on.

    Dolphins 303 & 119-5 (VB van Jaarsveld 33, SJ Erwee 31, K Zondo 28; D Pretorius 2-10)
Lions 134 (WJ Lubbe 36, CJ Alexander 20 not out; K Mungroo 3-35, KJ Dudgeon 3-40)
Dolphins lead by 288 runs with 5 wickets remaining

    Scorecard

Tabraiz Shamsi was at the forefront of the Titans’ bowling attack with a magical 5-83 in 26.1 overs as his efforts helped the visitors bowl out the Knights for 231  in 75.1 overs, taking a 72-run lead into the second innings. Grant Mokoena was the pick of the Knights’ batsmen at the top of the innings with 58 off 87 balls (10×4, 1×6), but not much followed after his dismissal.

    Titans 303 & 89-2 (JD Vandiar 28 not out, F du Plessis 13 not out; SC van Schalkwyk 1-23, R McLaren 1-24)
    Knights 231 (TG Mokoena 58, KD Petersen 30; T Shamsi 5-83, I Moseki 2-34)
Titans lead by 161 runs with 8 wickets remaining

    Scorecard

The Warriors resumed on day two on 105-1, but fantastic bowling spells from Dane Piedt and Mthiwekhaya Nabe reduced the home team to 252 all out, largely thanks to half-centuries from Eddie Moore and captain Jon-Jon Smuts. The table-topping Cobras took a narrow 14-run lead into the second innings, and the opening pair of Janneman and Pieter Malan added further half-centuries to the visitors’ cause as the Cobras look to take control of the encounter.

Cape Cobras 266 & 148-1 (PJ Malan 61, JN Malan 77 not out, HM Amla 8 not out; L Sipamla 1-30)
    Warriors 252 (EM Moore 75, JT Smuts 63, S Qeshile 41; M Nabe 3-43, DL Piedt 3-56)
Cobras lead by 162 runs with 9 wickets in hand
