• Zondo, Olivier star as 4-Day series resumes

    Duanne Olivier’s 4-23 and an unbeaten 114 from Khaya Zondo were the highlights of the day as the  4-Day Franchise Series resumed following the excitement of the Mzansi Super League.

    Dolphins skipper Khaya Zondo scored a superb undefeated 114 off 213 balls (16×4, 3×6) as his side built a solid first innings score of 302-6 off 88 overs against the Lions at the Wanderers. Cody Chetty (65) and Andile Phehlukwayo (57) offered their skipper good support, while Dwaine Pretorius picked up 3-37.

    The Knights’ Duanne Olivier took the opportunity to showcase his skills with the ball to Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis ahead of the Pakistan tour. Olivier bowled sensationally to return figures of 16-7-23-4, while Du Plessis top-scored with 84 off 125 balls (12×4). Heinrich Klaasen (63) and Farhaan Behardien (53) were also in form with the bat as the Titans scored 303 off 85 overs.

    Log-leaders the Cape Cobras got off to a fine start, with brothers Janneman Malan (67) and Pieter Malan (72) putting on 124 for the first wicket, but three ducks (including Hashim Amla and Protea-in-waiting Zubayr Hamza) saw them struggle to 200-8, with Sisanda Magala (3-66) picking up three key top-order wickets. A ninth-wicket partnership of 56 between Dane Paterson (41) and Tladi Bokako (21) enabled the Cobras to recover to post a respectable 266 all out.
