Proteas Women chase final spot against unbeaten England

The Proteas Women face England on Thursday in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup semi-final at The Oval, with a place in the final against Australia on the line.

South Africa booked their spot in the last four after a tense four wicket win over Bangladesh at Lord’s. Chasing 118 on a slowing surface, they were made to work but held their nerve to reach the target with four balls to spare.

The bowling attack has been South Africa’s most reliable component throughout the tournament. Nonkululeko Mlaba impressed again with two for 22, breaking Bangladesh’s middle order at key moments. Kapp and Shabnim Ismail also set the tone early with disciplined new ball spells.

South Africa will look for greater fluency with the bat in a high pressure setting. Laura Wolvaardt remains central at the top of the order, while the experience of Kapp, Chloe Tryon and Annerie Dercksen adds stability through the middle.

Australia are already through to the final after an emphatic eight wicket win over the West Indies in the first semi-final at The Oval.

South Africa know a complete performance will be required to challenge the hosts, but their bowling gives them a strong foundation heading into the knockout clash.
