Frustrated Miller waiting for opportunity

David Miller admits he is frustrated to be on the sidelines at the IPL, but says he understands the realities of team selection.

The veteran Proteas batsman has missed the Delhi Capitals’ last two matches as the franchise reshuffled their overseas combination following the return of Australian quick Mitchell Starc.

With only four overseas players allowed in the XI, Miller has found himself competing for a middle-order spot, with Tristan Stubbs preferred in the last three games, including Friday’s against the Kolkolta Knight Riders.

“Obviously it is frustrating,” Miller said. “You always want to play every game, but such is the IPL, the structure of it with only four overseas [players in the XI], the combinations become really important for the team.

“So I have been around. This is not my first IPL, so I kind of understand the make-up.”

Despite the disappointment, the 36-year-old is focused on contributing off the field and staying ready for his chance.

“It’s just really to give positive feedback to the rest of the squad, always being positive and give what I can towards the team remains really important for me,” he said.

“And then just waiting for my opportunity to come again – if it does come around for the rest of the season or not, I just want to remain ready, prepare really well, that is what us players like to do.”
