Mumbai split between Rickelton and De Kock

Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock are living the same reality in Mumbai colours, sharing a role that allows little room for both at once.

At Mumbai Indians, two left handed wicketkeeper batters from South Africa are competing for one place in the Indian Premier League, as reported by News24.

Rickelton’s most recent high point came with a blistering 83 off 32 balls against Lucknow Super Giants, underlining the impact he can bring at the top of the order.

“It’s been tricky to have a guy of Quinny’s calibre sitting on the bench,” he said. “You are burning yourself with a bit more pressure because you know how good he is and everyone is calling for him.”

Both players operate in the same mould. Left handed wicketkeeper batters, attacking at the top, with the experience to change games quickly.

De Kock has remained closely involved, offering feedback and insight into Rickelton’s batting.

“He has helped me a lot this tournament,” Rickelton said. “He has watched my batting and tweaked things along the way.”

At Mumbai, selection moves with conditions and balance. One plays, one waits, and the decision shifts from match to match.
