St David’s Prep hosted eight U12 ‘stayers’ teams in a festival of cricket over the weekend which saw the teams play a 50-over game, a 10-overs a side carnival of cricket and a T20 game, writes THEO GARRUN.
The format was the brainchild of Dave Nosworthy, St David’s director of cricket, who decided to spice it up a bit this year.
‘The St David’s prep schools festival has been going for quite a few years now and it has always been a rather quiet affair,’ said Nosworthy. ‘This time we decided to mix a bit of fun in with a 10 overs a side carnival in which everyone bats and everyone bowls, and to play the two limited-overs formats on the other days.
‘It’s certainly worked. The results really don’t matter, we want these boys to make friends, learn the basics and become hooked on the game.’
The following individual awards were made at the end of the proceedings. The batsman of the festival award went to Joe MacRobert of St David’s who made 341 runs, the bowler of the tournament was Luke McLaren of Montrose who took 11 wickets and the player of the festival was Cornwall Hill’s Esosa Aihevba, who shone with bat and ball, including making 25 and taking three wickets in their 50 over game against St Peter’s.
The results of Saturday’s 10-overs-a-side carnival were:

6. Somerset College
7. Heronbridge
8. Clifton
In the Sunday T20 games, Montrose beat St David’s, Cornwall Hill beat St Stithians, St Peter’s beat Clifton and Somerset beat Heronbridge. In line with the festival concept, no individual scores were kept.
