• $100,000 CPL payday for Kallis

Former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis was contracted by the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel for $100,000 during Thursday’s Carribean Premier League player draft.

The acquisition continued a lucrative year for Kallis, who was named Player of the Tournament on the back of a solid stint for the Sydney Thunder in Australia’s Big Bash League in January.

Kallis will be accompanied by batsman Cameron Delport and all-rounder Johan Botha at the Red Steel. Delport and Botha were signed for $20,000 and $50,000 respectively.

‘Really excited to be part of the Red Steel family for the 2015 CPL. Going to be a great experience, can’t wait,’ tweeted Delport.

The Barbados Tridents secured the services of all-rounder Justin Ontong for $15,000, while seamer Rusty Theron was recruited by the Jamaica Tallawahs for $10,000.

Batsman Henry Davids, meanwhile, was retained by the St Lucia Zouks for $20,000. The South African-born Kevin Pietersen, too, will play for the Zouks. He was contracted for $80,000.

‘Really chuffed to be part of the Zouks again,’ enthused Davids on Twitter.

Proteas Farhaan Behardien, Marchant de Lange, Dean Elgar, Beuran Hendricks, David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Robin Peterson, Chris Morris, Imran Tahir and David Wiese went unsold. Fast bowler Chris Morris, batsman Herschelle Gibbs and seamer Lonwabo Tsotsobe, too, did not gain contracts.

Barbados are the reigning champions, after beating Guyana in the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2014 Caribbean Premier League final.
