• Test and T20I awards for De Kock and Miller, respectively

Wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock and batsman David Miller were named Test Cricketer of the Year and T20 International Cricketer of the Year, respectively, at Saturday’s Cricket South Africa’s awards in Pretoria.

De Kock was nominated alongside captain Faf du Plessis, spinner Keshav Maharaj and fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Dale Steyn.

‘De Kock topped the Proteas’ Test-runs chart with 526 runs at an average of 43.83. His season’s best of 129 came against Pakistan in the third Test, when he rescued South Africa’s innings from 93-5, adding a crucial 102 runs with Hashim Amla. De Kock also scored four half-centuries. Behind the stumps, he took 32 catches and made one stumping,’ said CSA.

Miller was vying for the award alongside batsmen Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks as well as all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo.

‘Miller scored 221 runs at a strike rate of 142.58. He also took 10 catches and made a stumping. In the first T20I against Pakistan, he took four catches and ran two batsmen out – a record for a fielder. In the second match, he captained the Proteas and scored 65 not out off 29 balls. The seven-run victory broke Pakistan’s sequence of 11 series wins in a row, and capped off Miller’s Player of the Series performance,’ added CSA.

Du Plessis, meanwhile, won the Men’s Cricketer of the Year, ODI Cricketer of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year accolades.
