Sunrisers call on Coetzee after injury setback

Gerald Coetzee has been signed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad as a replacement for David Payne for the remainder of IPL 2026.

Payne has been ruled out with an ankle injury after featuring in two matches and taking two wickets. His absence continues a run of changes to the Sunrisers’ pace resources this season.

Coetzee brings international experience, having taken 67 wickets across four Tests, 14 ODIs and 18 T20Is for South Africa.

The right-arm quick has also featured in the IPL, playing 14 matches for the Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, where he has claimed 15 wickets.

He joins the Sunrisers for INR 2 crore (R3.5-million) as the franchise looks to strengthen its bowling unit.

The Sunrisers are currently fifth on the table with two wins from five matches. Their campaign has been uneven, with the bowling attack lacking consistency across phases.
