Legendary fast bowler Dale Steyn says Proteas paceman Lungi Ngidi needs to address his run-up.
Ngidi failed to justify his selection ahead of Dane Paterson for the World Test Championship at Lord’s, conceding 45 runs in eight wicketless overs on Wednesday.
He was particularly poor after lunch, relieving the pressure that had been put on the Australian batsmen by the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen.
“His run up needs some serious work,” Steyn tweeted at the time. “He starts good the first half and unfortunately by the time he hits the second half he’s almost dropped in speed and momentum, pedestrian really, forced to then use his body and action for pace it’s then always a fight to deliver consistency.”
The Proteas went on to bowl Australia out for 212, but were struggling at 43-4 at stumps.
