• St Andrews win EP schools T20

    St Andrews College beat Grey High by four wickets to clinch the Eastern Province 2019 T20 Schools Challenge Provincial Final.

    The 2019 Schools T20 Challenge tournament has reached its business stage and St Andrews College has won the Eastern Province T20 Schools Challenge Provincial final. They qualified to play against Border and Kei champions on 9 March to see who will represent their franchise in the national finals from the 15-17 March.

    This year’s provincial finals were played over two days and started off at the quarter-final stage where St Andrews College, Bethelsdorp Comprehensive School, Loyiso High School, Hoër Landbouskool Marlow, Grey High School, Hoërskool Brandwag, Union High School and Hoërskool Nico Malan battled each other to represent their province.

    St Andrews beat Bethelsdorp High School by 139 runs in the quarter-finals, Hoër Landbouskool Marlow by 8 wickets in their semi-final, and Grey High School by 6 wickets in the final.

    St Andrews’ strength was drawn from their batsmen, with most of them getting decent scores during the tournament. James Mullins 82, Callum Francis 82 not out, Nicholas Barlow 43, and Guy Rushmere 42 all got among the runs, while Nicholas Poole was their top wicket-taker with 6 wickets in the tournament.

    The winner of the Franchise finals will join the other five franchises winners and the two schools that qualified through the CSA Focus School programme at the competition’s National Finals at the University of Pretoria from 15 to 17 March. The eventual winners stand to walk off with R110 000 for their school.
