• Spartans name De Bruyn replacement

Titans batsman Andrea Agathangelou has been added to the Tshwane Spartans’ squad for the remainder of the Mzansi Super League.

Agathangelou has replaced fellow batsman Theunis de Bruyn, who has been sidelined by a back injury. De Bruyn will likely return to competitive cricket in two weeks, shortly after the tournament ends.

‘It was obviously something I wanted from the beginning. I didn’t get selected from the start, but the fact that I eventually got the call to play for the Spartans is an honour,’ said Agathangelou.

‘I do think I can add value to the side and hopefully at the end of the day help to get those wins.’

England batsman Eoin Morgan, meanwhile, has joined the Spartans. He was recruited as their international marquee player earlier this year, but has been playing for the Kerala Knights in Sharjah’s T10 League.

‘He’s an absolutely incredible player. He’s showcased his skills around the world and his inclusion definitely spikes our chances,’ added Agathangelou.

The Spartans currently occupy fifth position in the six-team standings after two wins in six attempts. They will play the Paarl Rocks at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Wednesday and Nelson Mandela Bay Giants at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
