South African IPL Preview: Lungi Ngidi

Lungi Ngidi announced himself with a bang at the Chennai Super Kings in the 2018 Indian Premier League. Despite missing the 2019 edition through injury, he has become a strong personality in MS Dhoni’s team. Here’s a look at his IPL record.

Ngidi had a delayed start to his IPL career when he had to return home to South Africa in 2018 after the passing of his father. The tall fast-bowler eventually joined up with the Super Kings and immediately hit the ground running with some excellent bowling displays.

Ngidi claimed 11 wickets from the seven matches he played in his first campaign and helped the Super Kings to a third IPL title in 2018.

Unfortunately, a side strain ruled Ngidi out of the 2019 IPL but he returned last year, and despite a troubled seasoned for the men in yellow, he managed to claim nine wickets from the four matches he played in the UAE.

IPL Teams: Chennai Super Kings (2018-present)

Total wickets: 2018 = 11, 2019 = dnp, 2020 = 9

Best bowling figures: 4-10 vs Kings XI Punjab 2018, 3-38 vs Mumbai Indians 2020

Honours: IPL Champions with Chennai Super Kings 2018
