• Sixers fizzle as Stars get consolation win

The round robin stages of the WBBL concluded with a consolation win for the Melbourne Stars over the Sydney Sixers – who failed to hit their straps in their final match after having already qualified for the semi-finals.

The dead rubber encounter saw the women from Sydney – who finished top of the WBBL table for a third consecutive season – face off against a Stars outfit that were languishing bottom two of the log, and from the outset it was clear the Sixers hadn’t shown up for the occasion.

Having won the toss, the Sixers only managed 92 all out in 19 overs, with Alyssa Healy’s 35 off 21 balls (5×4, 1×6) the only double-figure score in the entire innings. South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp (2-9 in 4 overs) was valiant in her efforts in the second innings, but the Stars eventually sealed the five-wicket victory in the 17th over as they gave the home crowd something to cheer about in their last match of the season.
