Former Proteas seamer Kyle Abbott took 3-117 for Hampshire.
Dean Elgar struck 46 off 51 balls (eight fours) as Essex cruised to an innings-and-39-run victory against Sussex.
County Championship Division Two
Colin Ingram scored 87 off 141 balls (nine fours, one six) in Glamorgan’s first innings before adding 27 off 29 (two fours) in the second in a five-wicket win against Kent.
Former SA Emerging batsman Leus du Plooy captained Middlesex to a convincing innings-and-107-run win against Northamptonshire, while scoring 105 off 152 balls (10 fours, one six).
Durban-born Australia international Chris Green hit 160 off 199 balls (13 fours, eight sixes) before taking 2-73 and 2-62 with the ball in Lancashire’s nine-wicket win against Gloucestershire.
