• Castle picks up sponsor’s tab for Pak/SL tours

Cricket South Africa announced on Thursday that South African Breweries had signed on as headline sponsor of the two Test series the Proteas are to contest against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

SAB’s Castle Lager brand will be used for all marketing and sponsorship initiatives relating to the series, in an agreement that has been signed for the current season only, although it will be reviewed by both parties at the end of the season.

‘SA Breweries and its Castle Lager brand have been both commercial partners and friends of CSA throughout the unity period,’ said CSA chief executive, Thabang Moroe. ‘We are delighted to have them on board again. Both the Proteas and Castle Lager are truly proud South African brands that are world-class products.

‘The Proteas will be looking to build on the excellent home series they had against two powerhouses of the game, India and Australia, last season, and we are expecting equally tough challenges in the Castle Lager Test Series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

‘Pakistan arrive on our shores today, having achieved outstanding results in two of their three series this year against England and Australia.

‘This also comes at a time when there has been a revival in interest in the five-day format as we are witnessing in the current series between Australia and India, and we are expecting more of the same when the Proteas get back into action.

‘We are blessed with some of the great stars of Test cricket at the moment, including Kagiso Rabada, who is the world’s No 1-ranked bowler in this format,’ concluded Moroe.

‘Castle believes that sport is our nation’s greatest unifier and we are proud to associate ourselves with the Proteas. We look forward to an excellent series of summer cricket, filled with good times, great beer and new friendships,’ added ABinbev sponsorship manager Gregg Fry.
