Day the records tumbled

England remarkably skittled Australia for just 60 in the first session of the fourth Test at Trent Bridge, with Stuart Broad taking 8-15 on his home ground.

With that of course, came plenty of records. Here are a collection of them.

  • Broad’s 8-15 were his best-ever figures in first-class cricket
  • They were the 8th best figures by an Englishman
  • Best-ever figures at Trent Bridge
  • Third best figures against Australia
  • Fourth best figures in the Ashes
  • He became the 5th Englishman to reach 300 Test wickets with his first scalp of the morning
  • He equalled the fastest five-wicket haul in Tests, joining Australian Ernie Toshack on 19 balls
  • It was the quickest five-wicket haul at the start of an innings
  • The fifth wicket to fall took 25 balls – the fewest amount in the history of Tests
  • Australia were bowled out for 60 in 18.3 overs. It was their 8th lowest total of all time
  • Seventh lowest total against England
  • Seventh shortest completed innings of all time
  • Second shortest completed innings in the Ashes
  • It was the first time in the Ashes that extras has been the highest run-scorer
