• Raining tons on day four

Four centuries were registered on the fourth day of the CSA Under-19 Cubs Week in Stellenbosch, with the Titans Cubs and Lions Cubs advancing to Sunday’s final.

Despite losing by just two runs to Zimbabwe in a high-scoring thriller, the Lions Cubs managed to book a spot in the final against the undefeated Titans who compiled a superb chase to defeat the Knights.

The four centuries scored came from the Zimbabwe vs Lions and Titans vs Knights matches.

Ryan Murray hit eight fours and eleven sixes in a superb 112-ball 131 to help Zimbabwe register 314. In reply, Wandile Makwetu celebrated his 18th birthday in style, scoring 111 from 130 balls. However, the Lions Cubs fell narrowly short, losing by two runs.

With the Knights Cubs in a spot of bother at 27-3, Phillip Visser strode to the crease to score a magnificent 111 to take the Knights to 239-7 in their encounter against the Titans. Unfortunately for the Knights, Donovan Ferreira eclipsed Visser’s heroics as he blitzed an undefeated 115 from 90 balls to guide the Titans to a 2 wicket victory with four overs to spare.

In the day’s other matches, the Cobras Cubs romped to a 155 run win over the South African U17 Invitational team, whilst the Warriors Cubs registered their third successive victory at the Cubs Week off the back of more half-centuries from Jason Niemand and Matthew Breetzke.
