• Rabada and Du Plessis lead CSA awards nominees

    Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada and captain Faf du Plessis have secured four and three nominations, respectively, ahead of Cricket South Africa’s awards for the 2018-19 season.

    Du Plessis and Rabada have been nominated in the categories Cricketer of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year and ODI Cricketer of the Year. Rabada, additionally, has been included in the Delivery of the Year nominations.

    Wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock, spinner Keshav Maharaj and fast bowler Dale Steyn have also been nominated in the Test Cricketer of the Year category.

    In the women’s section, captain Dane van Niekerk and fast bowler Marizanne Kapp have each been nominated for four awards.

    ‘It is my great pleasure and privilege to congratulate all the nominees as we celebrate the achievements of both our Proteas men’s and women’s squads,’ said CSA chief executive officer Thabang Moroe.

    ‘And, while we are doing that, let us not forget to thank all those great and selfless people who work diligently behind the scenes to create opportunities for our leading cricketers to excel. Our country continues to produce world-class players. I think we have all been excited to see new faces such as Rassie van der Dussen, Lutho Sipamla and Zubayr Hamza.’

    Pretoria will host the awards ceremony on 3 August.
