• Proteas Test players to miss IPL playoffs

The eight players included in the Proteas squad for the World Test Championship final will leave their IPL franchises after the league stage.

ESPNcricinfo reports that Kagiso Rabada (Gujarat Titans), Aiden Markram (Lucknow Super Giants), Marco Jansen (Punjab Kings), Tristan Stubbs (Delhi Capitals), Lungi Ngidi (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Wiaan Mulder (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch (both Mumbai Indians) will leave for the UK with the rest of the Proteas squad on 30 May to prepare for a warm-up game against Zimbabwe from 3 June at Arundel.

All other South African players will remain at the IPL until its conclusion.

The IPL was scheduled to finish on 25 May, but then the deadly conflict between nuclear-armed neighbours India and Pakistan erupted, causing the competition to be suspended for a week.

The first playoff qualifier will now be on 29 May, followed by the eliminator on 30 May. The second qualifier is slated for 1 June and the final two days later.

The WTC final takes place at Lord’s from 11-15 June.
