The Proteas bowlers are under pressure to deliver going into the series-deciding third T20I at Trent Bridge on Sunday.
South Africa were blown away in Manchester on Friday as England racked up a record 304-2 – the first time a full member nation has conceded 300 in a T20I – before sealing a 146-run victory.
Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Lizaad Williams, Bjorn Fortuin and Kwena Maphaka all went for more than 10 runs an over.
“When there is an onslaught like that against the new ball, we need to find different plans. I didn’t think we bowled enough yorkers, we didn’t bowl the short ball enough, we became one-dimensional,” said coach Shukri Conrad.
“The players have to take a long look at themselves, and look at their execution when under pressure.
“There’s not too much in terms of analysis … you will look to wipe the slate clean, but you can’t ignore what’s gone wrong, and a lot’s gone wrong. We need to be better than that if we want to be a top side, which I believe we are.”
Conrad said he wanted to settle on his best bowling combination soon.
“We are building towards a World Cup, we have series against India and Pakistan, where we will look at combinations. Then we go into the SA20, which will give me a big lens into where guys are at.
“There are not too many matches to be experimenting. You want to be building on the confidence, you need to be winning games.
“We need to come back strong and a lot better on Sunday.”
The match starts at 3:30pm (SA time).
