Blitz and Spartans to play MSL opener

The Cape Town Blitz and Tshwane Spartans will contest the opening fixture of the inaugural Mzansi Super League at Newlands on Friday, 16 November 2018. 

The full list of fixtures was released on Thursday.

The team that tops the table will be afforded direct passage to the final at their home ground.

The side that ends second will host the third-place finishers in an ‘eliminator’ fixture, which will decide the second finalist.

The opening weekend will also see the Jozi Stars clash with the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants at Wanderers Stadium on Saturday. The Blitz will play the Durban Heat at Kingsmead and the Paarl Rocks will host the Tshwane Spartans at Boland Park on Sunday.

‘This is certainly an exciting fixture at one of the world’s iconic venues to kickstart our league,’ said Cricket South Africa chief executive officer Thabang Moroe.

‘We have as far as possible concentrated fixtures on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays which have proved to be the most popular days with our fans in the past.

‘We are also confident that the league will attract new fans as well and provide ideal entertainment value for families in a secure and convivial environment. The entertainment package will go way beyond cricket.

‘Where there are two fixtures on the same day, these will be played at staggered times so that fans will be able to get full value from SABC’s live coverage of all the matches.’
