• Morris bowling masterclass boosts Royals to victory

All-rounder Chris Morris produced a masterful bowling spell to inspire the Rajasthan Royals to a comfortable six-wicket win over the Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday.

After going for just nine runs in his first two overs, Morris came back at the death to claim four wickets in a skilful final spell to finish with 4-23 after the Royals bowled first. It was his joint-equal best return in the IPL.

Earlier in the season, Morris smashed 36 from 18 to help the Royals to a good win over the Delhi Capitals, and this was another timely performance from the versatile superstar.

Morris was bought for a whopping R32.8 million during February’s IPL auction, making him the most expensive player in the history of the T20 showpiece, and it will be a big confidence booster for him to have contributed once again.

Set just 134 for victory after the Morris masterclass, the Royals didn’t have it all their own way on a tricky wicket, but ultimately the result was never in doubt.

It was also a good bounce-back result for the Royals after a couple of recent defeats, and the return to match-winning form for Morris will be particularly pleasing.
