• Morgan ‘preparing for Pakistan’s best’

Captain Eoin Morgan won’t underestimate Pakistan come Monday’s World Cup fixture at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

England were convincing in Thursday’s opening tournament victory over South Africa, while Pakistan slipped to a disappointing defeat to the West Indies on Friday.

Pakistan are the reigning Champions Trophy, after beating England and India en route to the title in 2017. That tournament was also hosted in the United Kingdom.

‘We’re preparing for Pakistan at their best. Only two years ago they were the best side in the Champions Trophy, they turned us over, they turned India over. We’ll be preparing as best we can for their A game,’ said Morgan.

England are contemplating recalling fast bowler Mark Wood to the XI to bowl alongside the Barbados-born Jofra Archer. Seamer Tom Curran, too, is in contention.

‘It is exciting. It might happen and if it does that would be awesome. I think there’s a good case for playing any of our bowlers. We’ll have to adapt to anything the wicket throws up. If there is anything to exploit, hopefully we’ll select the right team,’ added Morgan.

Pakistan and England have contested 87 ODIs since the first in 1974. The former have won 53 and the latter 31, with three no-results. They met for a five-match series last month, when the English won four-nil.
