• Maxwell’s 98 trumps Pakistan’s twin tons

Glenn Maxwell scored a brilliant 98 not out as Australia scored a fourth straight win over Pakistan in the fourth ODI in Dubai on Friday.

Maxwell provided Australia with the impetus to compile a competitive score with a stunning innings of 98 off 82 balls, including nine fours and three sixes.

Usman Khawaja (62 off 78 balls) and Alex Carey (55 of 67 balls) gave the innings extra support to push Australia’s score up to 277-7 off their 50 overs.

Imad Wasim 2-56 (econ 6.22) and Yasir Shah 2-57 (5.70) fared best with the ball for the hosts.

Pakistan put up a superb run chase, with Abid Ali (112 off 119 balls) and Mohammad Rizaan (104 off 107 balls) taking their side to the brink of victory. Great bowling at the death denied Pakistan as Australia sneaked home by six runs, with Nathan Coulter-Nile returning figures of 3-53 and Marcus Stoinis 2-20, the visitors now up 4-0 in the five-match series.
