Proteas T20I captain Aiden Markram tops a list of 541 players to go under the gavel in the SA20 player auction in Johannesburg on 9 September.
More than 800 players initially registered for season four – a record for the competition – before the final list was trimmed following franchise reviews. Of those, 300 are South Africans and 241 overseas players, highlighting the global pull of the league.
Markram will be joined in the auction by seven of his fellow T20 World Cup finalists: Anrich Nortje, Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi, Ottneil Baartman and Gerald Coetzee.
There is also a strong showing from South Africa’s red-ball stars, with Kyle Verreynne, David Bedingham, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Tony de Zorzi and Dane Paterson all on the list after helping the Proteas claim the World Test Championship title in June.
The six franchises – the Joburg Super Kings, Pretoria Capitals, Paarl Royals, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, MI Cape Town and Durban’s Super Giants – will finalise their 19-player squads during the auction.
The tournament begins on 26 December.
