• Malan’s ton puts Cobras in control

Pieter Malan’s century against the Titans sent a message to the Proteas selectors that he isn’t going to give up his place without a fight.

The Cape Cobras opener is under pressure to retain his Test spot after Aiden Markram, whom he’d replaced for the England series earlier this year, scored back-to-back centuries last week.

Malan scored a patient 125 in Centurion, and was well supported by Aviwe Mgijima (86), to put the Cobras in control. The Cape side are 351-5 at stumps.

In Port Elizabeth, Wesley Marshall’s 145 has put the Lions in a strong position against the Warriors. Proteas all-rounder Wian Mulder fell eight runs short of a century, while Ryan Rickelton contributed 72 to a big team total of 385-8. Basheeru-Deen Walters took 5-58.

Finally, in Durban, Dolphins seamer Daryn Dupavillion blew the Knights away, taking 7-38. The visitors crumbled to 116 all out. In reply, the Dolphins are 169-7 at stumps, Grant Roelofsen top-scoring with 64*. Gerald Coetzee took 3-38 for the Knights.
