• Malan inspired by contemporary Rickelton

The talented Janneman Malan will look to draw inspiration from fellow Mzansi Super League star Ryan Rickelton when the Jozi Stars and Cape Town Blitz meet at the Wanderers on Saturday.

Rickelton struck a match-winning half-century in victory over the Paarl Rocks earlier this week, while Malan did the same in triumph over the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants.

Malan’s 57 was impressive, but outweighed by Rickelton’s 91 – the highest individual score of the inaugural tournament so far.

‘I think maybe, coming into the tournament as young guys you don’t feel like you are one of the guys to perform,’ said Malan.

The hard-hitting Rickelton’s vigil spanned a mere 59 deliveries – and featured seven fours and three sixes. He was particularly fruitful against Proteas seamer Dane Paterson – and shared a telling 155-run alliance for the first wicket alongside the entertaining Rassie van der Dussen in the absence of West Indian big-hitter Chris Gayle, who has departed for a stint in the T10 League in the United Arab Emirates.

‘But after watching Ryan’s knock, it did make an impact to show me that one of us can make an impact on a game. So, definitely when I saw it, I also felt that I could do it,’ added Malan.
