• Maharaj earns Proteas T20I recall

The Proteas have made five changes to their T20I squad for next month’s three-match series in England.

David Miller and Donovan Ferreira return to the setup for the first time since December 2024.

Keshav Maharaj has also earned a recall having been omitted from the squad that lost the recent T20I series to Australia. The spinner took a career-best 5-33 in the first ODI.

All-rounder Marco Jansen and fast bowler Lizaad Williams are also back after recovering from thumb and knee injuries respectively.

Meanwhile, rising star Kwena Maphaka has been retained in the ODI squad as cover for Kagiso Rabada, who is still recovering from an ankle injury. Rabada is expected to play a limited role in the ODI series but should be ready for the T20Is.

Convenor of selectors Patrick Moroney said the recent tours to Zimbabwe and Australia had been valuable in broadening the pool.

“We saw some exciting young talent step up in Australia, proving their capabilities under pressure and with the T20 World Cup on the horizon, we now have a strong base of players to choose from.”

Coach Shukri Conrad added that the management would take a cautious approach with Rabada and Temba Bavuma’s workloads.

“David’s return adds another dimension to our lineup, Donovan has impressed in the leagues, and Keshav strengthens our spin options with his skill and leadership.”

South Africa last toured England in 2022, winning the T20I series 2-1.
