Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest player ever to score a century in List A cricket before going on to break AB de Villiers’ record.
The 14-year-old rewrote the record books during Bihar’s Vijay Hazare Trophy opener against Arunachal Pradesh on 24 December, blasting a breathtaking hundred at just 14 years and 272 days of age.
Remarkably, the milestone came off only 36 balls, setting the tone for one of the most destructive innings the format has seen.
Suryavanshi didn’t stop there. He powered his way past 150 in just 59 deliveries, eclipsing the previous fastest mark held by SA legend AB de Villiers (64 balls, against the West Indies in 2015), before eventually being dismissed for a stunning 190 from 84 balls.
Suryavanshi’s innings, which included 16 fours and 15 sixes, was central to Bihar piling up an extraordinary 574-6 – the highest total ever recorded in List A cricket and just the second time a side has crossed the 500-run mark in a 50-over match.
Amazingly, the knock came in just his seventh List A appearance since making his debut in December 2024.
Suryavanshi burst onto the global stage in April when he struck his very first ball in the IPL for six, before becoming the youngest centurion in T20 cricket with a 35-ball hundred for the Rajasthan Royals against the Gujarat Titans – the second-fastest IPL century of all time.
He continued his run in July by posting the fastest century in youth ODI history, smashing 143 against England at Worcester, and later produced a blistering 32-ball hundred for India A against the UAE in the Asia Cup Rising Stars T20.
