India have withdrawn from their World Championship of Legends semi-final against Pakistan, citing ongoing political tensions between the two nations.
The match was due to be played in Birmingham on Thursday, but with India refusing to take the field, Pakistan have advanced directly to the final. They will face the winner of the second semi-final between South Africa and Australia.
This is not the first time the issue has arisen in the tournament. India – featuring the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Yusuf Pathan and Robin Uthappa – had already declined to play their league-stage clash with Pakistan on 20 July, with both teams awarded shared points.
The decision comes against the backdrop of strained political relations between India and Pakistan following a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, in April and subsequent military clashes.
