• Independent schools out in Gauteng

This weekend is the half-term break for independent schools, but there is no time off for their 1st and U15A cricket teams. They will be in Gauteng from Thursday to Monday for their respective ISCF festivals, writes THEO GARRUN.

The first team festival is based at St Alban’s College in Pretoria, with some games played in Joburg, while the U15s will mainly be at St Benedict’s in Bedfordview, with some games at St Stithians and St John’s.

The first teams begin with a two-day time cricket game on Thursday and Friday, followed by limited-overs matches on the remaining two days. The fixtures may be disrupted slightly because of the staging of rain-delayed  T20 provincial playoffs over the weekend, but most of the matches will go off as scheduled.

Some international flavour will be lent to the event by the participation of Malvern College from England, as well as two Zimbabwe schools, St John’s Harare and St George’s.
