Jason Holder smashed a four off the final ball to give the West Indies a dramatic two-wicket win over Pakistan on Saturday, levelling the T20I series.
On the same night he claimed four wickets to set a new West Indies T20I record of 81 – surpassing Dwayne Bravo’s 78 – Holder finished unbeaten on 16 as the hosts snapped a six-match losing streak with no balls to spare.
Pakistan, who won Thursday’s opener by 14 runs, will look to bounce back in Sunday’s series decider under lights in Lauderhill, Florida.
Chasing 134 to win, the West Indies were in danger of a seventh straight T20I defeat after last month’s 5-0 whitewash by Australia. Gudakesh Motie top-scored with 28 but was run out by Mohammed Haris on the first ball of the 17th over, leaving the hosts 96-6.
Haris then caught Keacy Carty for a duck, but Holder kept his side in the hunt with a six at the end of the 18th over. Romario Shepherd followed up with a six and a four off Hasan Ali in the 19th to reduce the target to eight off the final over.
Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed Shepherd lbw for 15, but Holder and debutant Shamar Joseph kept their cool, running singles before Afridi bowled a wide to leave the hosts needing three off the last delivery. Holder sealed the win in style with a boundary.
Earlier, Pakistan posted 133-9, with Hasan Nawaz hitting 40 (four sixes, one four) and captain Salman Agha contributing 38 (one six, three fours).
