• Duminy out of Australia tour and MSL

A shoulder injury has sidelined South African batsman JP Duminy from November 2018’s tour of Australia.

Duminy will undergo right shoulder surgery later this month. The injury will also prevent him from participating in the Mzansi Super League.

He had been unveiled as the Cape Town Blitz’s marquee player for the inaugural T20 tournament earlier this week, but has since been replaced by wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock.

‘JP aggravated a pre-existing shoulder injury during the recently concluded series against Zimbabwe,’ said Proteas team manager, doctor Mohammed Moosajee.

‘The injury will require surgical management, thus ruling him out of the immediate tour of Australia and the upcoming MSL.

‘At the moment, we can’t say how long he will be out for, that is dependent on the results from the surgery.’

South Africa will also be without batsman Hashim Amla in Australia as he nurses his finger injury.

‘Hashim is injured, he is out of the squad already; as a selection group we have already discussed that with him. We want to give him as much time as possible for him to get ready for the next set of cricket that he has coming up,’ said head coach Ottis Gibson.

Australia and the Proteas will meet for three ODIs in Perth, Adelaide and Hobart on 4, 9 and 11 November. Carrara will host their one-off T20 on 17 November.
